Candle Color Meanings For Beginners
You wander into your local apothecary, crystal shop, or spiritual store (maybe even your local Michael’s or Dollar Tree in a pinch). There are dozens, maybe even hundreds of candle types and colors. Scented or unscented, tall 7-day candles or short chimes, and every shade of blue that’s humanly possible to imagine. Some are labeled with pre-set ignitions like ‘Love’ ‘Money,” and ‘Peace.’ But with so many options as a beginner, it can feel overwhelming to know how to begin planning out a spell.
In spellcraft, it is traditional to use ingredients that align with your intention. We often see this applied to what herbs you use, intention oils, or crystal types. While all these extra layers can strengthen your spell, the base root of a candle spell is picking your candle color! Candle colors can amplify your magic when casting spells or manifestations.
It’s Important to consider that while going to your local shops and getting every color of candle under the sun, it’s not a necessity to a successful spell. Think of our ancestors, even only a generation or two back. They most likely only had access to white candles or possibly a few basic colors, and many of them had extremely successful manifestations. My best advice as you begin your spellcraft journey is not to get worried about the difference between a chartreuse candle and a magenta one and get back to the basics when possible. Magic is all about intention and will, the colors are simply a great addition. Though this is a comprehensive list of candle colors, it’s all completely okay to substitute colors in a pinch. Money spells will often call for green candles, but who says you can’t use gold for wealth, red for speeding up income, or orange for positive attention around a business? Red
Most often associated with love, lust, romance, and attraction

This is a powerful color, it can be great when working with business deals or any sitauion where yu need to be the person in power.
Orange
Often, Orange is used in road-opener spells to remove blockages and clear the way to your goal
It can also be used in money magic, as it’s great for attracting customers to a bussiness
Boost your ambition or drive for a newfound project or reignite your passion for a longtime project.
Yellow
Yellow can be used for bringing positive energy and fighting depression or mood swings.
Can be used to bless a home or bring about joy within the home/family
It can also be used in money or success spells when the spell is centered on overall success.
It can also bring about mental focus and improved memory. Great for students and test-taking times.
Green
Of course green is used for money spells! They can also be used for anything surrounding income. Like new jobs, selling or buying a house, getting new clients or new customers into a business, raises or promotions etc.
Green is also the color often associated with the Heart chakra. So it can also be a great color for self-love spells or when you are trying to heal the heart in times of struggle.
Green can also be used to connect to nature deities like the Green Man or Gaia
Dark blue
Deep blues are often associated with dream work and receiving psychic dreams.
It can be used to expel the evil eye from someone and protect the user from jealousy.
It can also be used for good health and physical healing!
Great for anti-anxiety and bringing calming energy and peace into a home
Light blue
Like dark blue, it can also be used for good health and physical healing
Opening the throat chakra and being more well-spoken
It can be great for anyone who has to do public speaking. Or wants to stand up for themselves better
Since it’s so assisted with words and speaking, it's also great for truth spells! Either when you want someone to tell the truth to you or to be exposed to others for who they are (for this intention,, best to find a vibrant, colored blue, or even a bright teal).
Purple
Connection with intuition and the divine
Boosts creativity and helps avoid writer/artists block

Brown is a sturdy, earthy color often associated with grounding and stability

It can be used in court case magic. Either to stay under the radar of the law or to have a jury/judge favor you.
Black
You’ll probably use black candles almost as much as white candles in your journey. Black is one of those all-around great colors to use, as it’s so versatile.
Used in protection magic to block out and dispel any negativity
It can be used to banish someone or a situation from your life.
Used when protecting anything like a business, home, friend, reputation, etc.
Black is also often used in tandem with red when trying to take a curse or jinx off.
White
White is, again, a color you can use for any intention! Think of this as your blank canvas that you can will any manifestation onto.
Most often used for cleansing, clearing, and dispelling any negativity from yourself or a space.
Great to light when you use sage or other cleansing herbs
Alos great for connecting with deity when you feel you need more guidance.
Grey
An unusual color, but grey can often be a great color to have on hand! It is often used for “invisibility” work. This is when you don’t want to be seen, recognized, or perceived for whatever reason. Either light a grey candle while doing magic so it is “unseen” by the energies that be.
Or you can light this before you have to go somewhere and interact with negative people. It will keep you hidden, and they will not target you as much energetically.
Also used similarly to white, where you can put many intentions together using grey candles if you dot have the corresponds colors.
Gold
Often used for money spells to bring about wealth, luxury, and status.
This can also be a great candle to use when working with masculine Sun gods like Apollo.
Can be great for performers, dancers, or actors when needing to be noticed at an auction
Similarly, good to be used during job interview process or anything where you’re being reviewed and need to stand out!
Silver
Associated with the moon and feminine energy, silver is a great color for connecting with any moon goddess.s like Diana, Luna, Artemis etc.
Also great when used to connect with your divine feminine energy and the moon cycles
It can be used to amplify intuition or protection from the gods.
